Iga Swiatek’s ‘victim mentality’ called out by tennis analyst with Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka examples
Top-ranked tennis star Iga Swiatek has come under scrutiny from a tennis analyst, who believes the Polish player is adopting a “victim mentality” in response to online abuse. The analyst argued that Swiatek’s recent comments suggesting she is being unfairly singled out are misplaced.
“Here’s where she’s not right,” the analyst said. “She’s not correct in saying she’s being singled out. Every tennis player is being abused online — constantly. It’s terrible, but she’s not special in that regard.”
He went on to mention Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka, noting that they too receive frequent criticism and harassment from fans, particularly on social media.
“I’m telling you, Coco Gauff would say the same thing. Aryna Sabalenka probably gets messages like, ‘You grunt too loud,’ every time she loses. Everyone gets bullied online. It’s awful, but that’s the unfortunate reality now.”
Rather than falling into a mindset of self-pity, the analyst suggested a more proactive approach:
“Instead of asking, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ we need to recognize this as the world we live in and figure out how to manage it.”
Despite the criticism, the analyst acknowledged that Swiatek’s recent on-court struggles could be the result of more than just mental pressure or public scrutiny.
“It’s clear she’s not in a good headspace, and I think that’s the main reason for her recent dip in form. There could be technical issues, but I’m not qualified to spot them.”
He also speculated that there may be unseen personal issues affecting her performance:
“I do wonder if there’s more happening behind the scenes that we’re not aware of.”
Swiatek, a multiple Grand Slam champion, has had a strong but emotionally intense 2025 season so far, with performances that have sparked both admiration and concern among fans and analysts alike.
