Alex de Minaur continues to make his mark on the ATP Tour, reinforcing his status as one of the world’s top players.

Currently ranked World No. 8, the 26-year-old Australian—affectionately known as “The Demon”—defeated Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien 6-4, 6-4 at the Italian Open, advancing to the third round. With this victory, de Minaur became the only player on the ATP Tour to reach the round of 16 at all five Masters 1000 events held so far in 2025.

Masters 1000 tournaments are among the most prestigious on the calendar, offering 1000 ranking points to the winner. De Minaur has showcased remarkable consistency in these events, making the fourth round at Indian Wells and Miami, reaching the semi-finals in Monte Carlo, and again progressing to the last 16 in Madrid.

While he’s yet to claim an ATP title this year, de Minaur’s form suggests he’s a serious contender heading into the French Open, which begins on May 26. The Italian Open in Rome is his final tournament before Roland-Garros.

Next, de Minaur faces 12th seed Tommy Paul on Wednesday morning (AEST) for a spot in the quarter-finals.
