Jannik Sinner rues missing Paris Olympics as compatriot Lorenzo Musetti seizes bronze medal
Jannik Sinner has expressed his heartbreak at missing the 2024 Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis. Though he didn’t follow the events closely, he took comfort in Lorenzo Musetti’s bronze medal win over Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Sinner, who was set to be the top seed in singles and doubles, revealed to journalist Giovanni Pelazzo that winning a medal was a major goal for the season.
“I saw some of the Olympics, although I didn’t watch much tennis. It broke my heart not to be able to go to Paris, the Games were one of my main goals of the season,” Jannik Sinner said.
The Italian also hopes to see the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini win gold in the women’s doubles final.
“In the end though, looking at everything from a broader perspective, Musetti won a bronze, so an Italian is happy and I am happy for him. Let’s hope for gold tomorrow. I don’t know what my schedule will be like tomorrow yet, but if I have time, why not, I’d be happy,” he added.
