‘It’s the player, not the footwear’: Jack Grealish shows off ‘lucky’ tattered boots which won Aston Villa promotion

Jack Grealish starred in Aston Villa’s Championship play-off final win against Derby County at Wembley but his beleaguered boots were a sight to behold.

Villa’s 2-1 victory means they will return to the Premier League after relegation three years ago.

They were predominantly led there by lifelong Villa fan – and current captain -Grealish.

The 23-year-old returned from a three-month layoff in March to score four times and help his side to nine-consecutive wins en-route to making the play-offs.

And although the sight of his boots come full-time were tragic, the attacker revealed in a post-match interview with Sky Sports that they were ‘lucky’.

He said: “I came back from injury and these were brand new and then I got a few goals and I thought these are my lucky boots so I had to keep them.”

Twitter users certainly enjoyed Grealish’s choice of footwear.
