Djokovic Raises Alarm Bells: “I’ve Said It a Million Times.

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the ATP Masters 1000 in Paris Bercy without knowing if he could secure a spot for the ATP Finals in Turin, the season-ending event featuring the top eight players. Once he mathematically guaranteed his place, he immediately announced that he would not compete, effectively ending his 2024 season. His last official match saw him suffer a defeat in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai against Italian .

At 37 years old and ranked World No. 6, Djokovic referred to a “persistent injury” in his statement but did not specify the nature of the issue, making no specific mention of his right knee, which he had surgery on during Roland Garros due to a meniscus tear.

Concerns arose regarding ‘Nole’s’ fitness, especially after he opted out of two tournaments that traditionally suit his style. He did not defend his crown in Paris, nor did he have the opportunity to reclaim his ‘Master’ title, which he had previously secured in both 2023 and 2024, totaling seven times in his career.

The Serbian has eased the speculation surrounding him with several public appearances in Belgrade. He attended the Red Star vs. Barcelona football match and did not miss the EuroLeague basketball clash between Red Star and Alba. He also had the honor of presenting the championship trophy to Canadian Denis Shapovalov at the ATP 250 event in the Serbian capital. Days earlier, he had taken a vacation in the Maldives.

During the EuroLeague, he took a break to send a clear message about his immediate plans for the 2025 season. In an interview with Sport Klub, he reassured his fans: “Tennis remains my priority. I will give my all in the preseason; I just needed to recharge, refresh a bit after a grueling year,” said the Olympic champion.

He provided further hints: “I will play in the first week of the year, although I still don’t know where. And, logically, the Australian Open,” Djokovic stated, indicating a possible return at the ATP events in Brisbane or Adelaide. He could even play in Auckland, according to the ATP 2025 event calendar.

“I’ve said it a million times,” Djokovic emphasized regarding his tennis objectives, which focus on the Grand Slams, specifically aiming for his 25th title. “And I would also be thrilled to play the Davis Cup,” he concluded.
