Canada’s win is their second against Great Britain on Sunday after Denis Shapovalov beat Dan Evans 6-0 7-5.

Evans will return to action later in the day for the doubles match with Neal Skupski against Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov.

However, Canada’s wins in the singles mean they will advance to the Davis Cup finals in Malaga in November regardless of the doubles result.

They won all three of their ties in the group, with Great Britain only able to defeat Finland.

Draper’s loss on Sunday has come a little over a week since he lost his US Open semi-final to eventual champion Jannik Sinner 7-5 7-6 6-2.

The Brit was appearing in the final four of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career but was beaten in straight sets.

Draper vomited on the court four times, seemingly due to the humidity in New York.

However, he carried on playing and completed the match in full in a testament to his determination on the court.
