Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as club hero inadvertently teases his old fans during promotional trip to the USA
Jack Grealish has been back in the claret as speculation over his future continues this summer.
The Aston Villa fan and former captain of the club that nurtured his talent to such an extent that Manchester City splashed out a cool £100m for his services, is appealing to a whole new fanbase in the United States at the moment.
The treble-winner has been with the City squad in New York on their pre-season tour, and the popular 28-year-old was in his element as the great entertainer when the Premier League champions closed down a busy Manhattan block off Fifth Avenue.
Donning a claret-colour vest, reminiscent of the Villa kit he graced for so many years, Grealish was seen shooting some hoops before getting on the decks as DJ at the downtown block party.
After a difficult season for City and England, during which he often played a supporting role as Pep Guardola’s men claimed the title for a fourth successive year and subsequently missed out on Euro 2024 in Germany, talk has been rife about Grealish moving on this summer. Indeed, Villa remain 2/1 favourites with Sky Bet to land him before the summer transfer window closes.
But anyone who witnessed Grealish’s antics in New York, and the close camaraderie with his City team-mates, would quickly put any transfer talk to bed. He looked every inch a City player and destined to remain so for some time.
And as for that claret kit, well it was helping to showcase the launch of City’s new third kit, which was on sale a few blocks away at the club’s pop-up store at the Rockefeller Center, not a nod to times gone by inspiring his childhood club to great things.
