Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has not featured for the club since making a key impact off the bench in their 2-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux. Since that match, the England international has been sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.
Ahead of City’s clash with Brighton, manager Pep Guardiola addressed the media and provided clarity on Grealish’s absence. During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola explained that the 29-year-old has been hampered by multiple injury setbacks throughout the season, preventing him from finding consistent form.
“He’s had two or three injury setbacks that have disrupted his rhythm—that’s really the only issue,” Guardiola stated. “He needs to stay positive, and we need to keep him motivated. But ultimately, he has to be fit to play. And it’s not just Jack, several players have experienced the same struggles. That’s just the reality.”
Adding to the confusion surrounding Grealish’s status was his unexpected selection for England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures, despite being unfit to play for City. Guardiola did not directly address the international call-up, but it remains a point of contention as club and country seemingly differ on the player’s readiness.
Grealish had been hoping to bounce back this season after missing out on England’s Euro 2024 squad. However, persistent injuries have limited his impact. City now hope the winger can recover over the international break and return fully fit to contribute in the crucial run-in of the campaign.
