Manchester City winger Jack Grealish may be struggling for consistency this season, but Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes the 29-year-old still has plenty to offer — if given the right kind of support.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer described Grealish as a “sensitive” player who “needs loving” in order to rediscover his best form. Grealish recently ended his Premier League goal drought, scoring in City’s 2-0 victory over Leicester — his first league goal since December 2023.

Though he’s been linked with a potential summer exit after failing to secure a regular starting role since his 2021 move, Shearer remains optimistic about the England international’s prospects.

“I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes at City — whether Pep [Guardiola] doesn’t like his attitude or what he sees in training — but what I do know is Jack is a really good lad,” said Shearer.

“He cares deeply for his family, loves his football, and enjoys life. What he needs most is support and belief from those around him. He’s someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, and if he’s not playing, it hurts him.”

Shearer added that Grealish’s recent emotional post-match interview showed how much playing time means to him — and now, with Erling Haaland sidelined due to injury, he sees this as a prime opportunity for Grealish to make his mark.

“Goals do wonders for confidence, and Jack will be buzzing right now. Don’t be surprised if he scores again this weekend,” Shearer said.

“Missing out on the England squad will have stung. He’ll have looked at who was picked, compared performances, and felt that disappointment. But the only way to respond is on the pitch. Hopefully, this is the start of a strong run for him.”

Grealish’s journey at Manchester City has had its ups and downs, but if Shearer’s insights prove correct, the coming weeks could be pivotal in redefining his future at the club.
