Man City’s Jack Grealish sent a message to Curtis Jones as the Liverpool man scored in a brilliant performance for England vs Greece in the UEFA Nations League.
Manchester City and England forward Jack Grealish has praised Liverpool star Curtis Jones after his sensational performance for the Three Lions against Greece in the UEFA Nations League.
Lee Carsley’s side won 3-0 in Athens with Jones scoring a brilliant backheeled goal late on to cap an impressive showing. The Liverpool man was making his first start at senior level for England and could play again vs Ireland over the weekend.
“Well done boys!” Grealish wrote on Instagram. “Top performance and especially @curtis_jr what a player.” Jones was deployed in the center of midfield alongside Jude Bellingham and Conor Gallagher.
“I just went out there and I was playing free and I had a smile on my face,” Jones said live on ITV Sport post-match. “I was enjoying it and I’m happy I came away with a goal as well.
“When you’ve got a team like ours I can go high and I can come low and I can get on the ball and I can play. There’s lads there to help and there’s also lads who said I can go [forward] as well. Jude [Bellingham] stayed back, so I saw I had a chance to go and lucky enough I scored.”
Liverpool.com says: Jones’ talents being recognized more widely is great to see. A place in the England squad is nothing less than he deserves and now he needs to ensure that he is consistent enough to stay there.
A manager like Thomas Tuchel coming in should help too. The former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss is a top coach and alongside Arne Slot, he will be able to develop even further as he approaches what should be his peak years.
