The Manchester City midfielder displayed the calmness to take a touch before striking the ball on the half-volley and extending the visitors’ lead in Slovakia.

So far this season, the 21-year-old has made three appearances for City.

The Salford-born attacker came off the bench in the Sky Blues’ 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich Town, started in their 2-1 win against Watford in the Carabao Cup and emerged as an impact substitute against Slovan Bratislava.

What Grealish commented on Instagram after McAtee scores Man City goal

Last season, McAtee endured a tough campaign out on loan at Sheffield United.

While the Englishman impressed and played regular Premier League football, the Blades were relegated.

So far this campaign, McAtee has found it tough to gain too many minutes in the first-team for City.

However, the highly-rated technician took a massive step in his career at his boyhood club by scoring his first-ever goal for them.

McAtee took to Instagram to celebrate his landmark moment, captioning his post: “Couldn’t be happier to score my first goal for @mancity.”

Jack Grealish and John Stones commented using three and two clapping emojis respectively.

Morgan Rogers commented: “Proud of you.”

Liam Delap wrote: “What a player.”

Tommy Doyle commented: “My brother.”

While Nico O’Reilly left a blue-coloured heart on McAtee’s post.

Huge confidence boost for James McAtee

McAtee will be appreciative of the kind messages sent by his current and former teammates after his well-taken goal in the Champions League.

The England U-21 international’s goal should give him a massive confidence boost.

McAtee should be pushing to at least become a potential impact substitute for Pep Guardiola on a regular basis.

If the City academy graduate aims to become a starter at the club one day, impressing off the bench is one of the first steps that could lead him to do so.

But for now, McAtee should celebrate perhaps the most special moment in his career.

The Sky Blues wonderkid has gone out and achieved what might have been a lifelong dream of his.
