Jack Grealish struggled to impress last season at Manchester City and could leave the Etihad this summer, though rivals Manchester United have been told to steer clear
Manchester City forward Jack Grealish has been told he wouldn’t get into Manchester United’s first-team by Old Trafford legend Dwight Yorke.
The Englishman has endured a tough time of late. He has struggled to nail down a permanent spot in Pep Guardiola’s City XI, and a lack of Premier League minutes saw him miss out on Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
Grealish could yet be deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad, despite a recent commitment to stay and fight for game time at the club. With the transfer rumour mill swirling, one club touted as a potential destination are his Manchester rivals, United.
Red Devils treble-winner Yorke has chimed in on this suggestion, stating that Grealish wouldn’t even get into Erik Ten Hag’s team. He also added how Grealish and Marcus Rashford have similarly disappointed, despite holding such promise.
Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League Betting, Yorke said: “Grealish to Man United? In his current form, Jack Grealish wouldn’t get into Manchester United’s team.
“He’s similar to Rashford in being paid a huge amount of money and having so much potential but dropping off. You don’t mind going through a phase where you’re not a little bit off, and we all have those moments, but the drop-off is a significant one in both players.
“That comes down to whether or not they really focused on what got them to where they are. These are probably questions that only these guys can answer.
“They have ability in abundance, that’s why Grealish was worth a hundred million. That’s why Rashford is put into that bracket because he has all the attributes to be that type of player. What we have seen is the drop-off. There must be something within there that is not correct, that is for United and City to work out.”
Since his £100million move from Aston Villa, Grealish hasn’t set the world alight as a Citizen. He scored just 14 goals in three seasons, appearing mainly on the bench with others like Jeremy Doku preferred.
Switching his talismanic role at Villa Park for a squad role with the current Premier League champions has seen his stock plummet, and despite the silverware he’s won, Yorke believes that he wouldn’t even be wanted at United.
Rashford, too, missed out on playing for England at Euro 2024. And the similarities continue as he has seen his name linked with a transfer away – namely to PSG – this summer, amid suggestions that he might not be part of Ten Hag’s plans next season.
