Jack Grealish warned Pep Guardiola ‘doesn’t trust him anymore’ as struggling Man City winger sees ‘passion’ for football called into question
Grealish’s Struggles at Manchester City
Jack Grealish has been cautioned that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola “no longer trusts him,” as concerns grow over the winger’s diminishing “passion” for football.
The £100 million ($129m) signing from Aston Villa has found game time hard to come by this season, making just six Premier League starts. His lack of minutes has cost him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 and left him out of Thomas Tuchel’s first team selection.
Emmanuel Petit’s Verdict on Grealish’s Future
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Grealish has lost Guardiola’s faith and now faces a crucial period in his career. Speaking to pokerfirma.com, Petit questioned Grealish’s motivation and suggested he must rediscover his hunger for the game.
“We know the quality he possesses, but we haven’t seen it this season. Guardiola has kept him on the bench because he doesn’t believe in him or trust him anymore. Grealish is in trouble—not just with City, but also with England. He missed Euro 2024, and his international career, as well as his City future, is at a crossroads.”
Petit added:
“If he wants to be part of England’s World Cup squad in 2026, he needs to be playing regularly. You have to prove yourself every week, and right now, he hasn’t done that. He needs to ask himself: Has he lost his passion for football? His motivation seems to be lacking. The solution is simple—look in the mirror and decide how he wants the rest of his career to unfold. Right now, he hasn’t shown the desire or fight to be a first-team player at Manchester City.”
What’s Next for Grealish?
Manchester City are set to face Leicester City on Wednesday before a high-profile Manchester derby against United this weekend. It remains to be seen if Grealish will feature.
