James Wade Questions Ricky Evans’ Wacky On-Stage Approach Ahead of World Darts Championship Clash

James Wade has admitted he is intrigued — and slightly puzzled — by Ricky Evans’ energetic on-stage persona as the pair prepare to meet at the World Darts Championship.

Evans, known for his lightning-fast throws and animated walk-ons, has long been one of darts’ most distinctive characters. But ahead of their showdown at Alexandra Palace, Wade questioned whether that high-energy style can always be an advantage on the sport’s biggest stage.

“It’s very different”

Speaking before the match, Wade acknowledged Evans’ talent and unpredictability but suggested his approach is unlike anything most players would attempt at Ally Pally.

“It’s very different,” Wade said. “Some players like to get themselves fired up, others prefer to stay calm. Ricky definitely brings a lot of energy with him.”

Wade hinted that while Evans’ rapid pace and lively demeanour can unsettle opponents, the World Championship’s long formats and intense pressure might demand a more measured mindset.

Evans embraces chaos

Evans has never hidden his belief that playing fast and having fun brings out his best darts. Fans at Ally Pally often feed off his enthusiasm, turning his matches into crowd favourites regardless of the result.

Wade, however, suggested that controlling emotion is key at the World Championship, where momentum can swing quickly and concentration is tested over extended periods.

“At this level, you’ve got to handle everything,” Wade added. “Crowd noise, expectations, the occasion — it all adds up.”

Respect remains

Despite his comments, Wade was quick to stress there is no disrespect involved. He praised Evans’ ability to disrupt rhythm and acknowledged that his approach has earned him notable wins on the big stage.

“Ricky’s dangerous,” Wade said. “You don’t know what you’re going to get, and that can be tough to play against.”

Ally Pally clash awaits

With contrasting styles set to collide, the match promises to be one of personality as much as performance. Wade’s methodical, experience-driven game against Evans’ fast-paced flair adds another layer of intrigue to an already compelling World Championship encounter.

As Ally Pally prepares to roar, the question remains: will Evans’ trademark chaos thrive under the lights, or will Wade’s calm control prove decisive when it matters most? 🎯
