World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has officially pulled out of next week’s Hamburg Open, opting to focus on his ongoing campaign at the Italian Open, where he is set to face Tommy Paul in the semi-finals.
Sinner’s return to the ATP Tour has been impressive after serving a three-month doping suspension earlier this year. Competing on home soil in Rome, the 23-year-old has shown dominant form, eyeing a potential final showdown with Carlos Alcaraz.
Despite his strong run, Sinner joins a growing list of players withdrawing from the ATP 500 event in Hamburg. Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Paul, and Hamad Medjedovic have also pulled out, following earlier withdrawals from Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ugo Humbert, and Sebastian Korda.
As a result, players such as Damir Dzumhur, Daniel Altmaier, Francisco Comesana, Bu Yunchaokete, and Alexander Bublik will headline the Hamburg field. Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech may also enter the main draw as an alternate if further withdrawals occur.
German star Alexander Zverev has accepted a wildcard and will be the top seed, followed by Frances Tiafoe (No. 2) and Andrey Rublev (No. 3).
Although Sinner will arrive at Roland-Garros with limited clay-court match practice, his current level suggests he remains a strong contender for the French Open title. A win over Paul and a potential battle with Alcaraz would further cement his readiness for the second Grand Slam of the year.
