Jannik Sinner Loses Prize Money as Emma Raducanu Dealt Crushing Blow

Jannik Sinner, fresh off his Wimbledon 2025 men’s singles title win against Carlos Alcaraz on July 13, will see nearly half of his £3 million ($4.05 million) prize money reduced due to UK tax obligations. As a non-resident based in Monaco, Sinner faces an estimated 36.52% tax rate, leaving him with at least $2.5 million after deductions, according to tax experts. This significant cut stems from the UK’s policy of taxing prize money earned at Wimbledon, with additional rates up to 45% applied after expenses, a burden shared by many international players.

Simultaneously, Emma Raducanu has been dealt a crushing blow, dropping from world No. 40 to No. 45 and losing her British No. 1 ranking after a third-round Wimbledon exit to Aryna Sabalenka on July 4. Her £152,000 ($206,000) prize money will also be halved by a 45% UK tax rate, reducing her net earnings substantially. The ranking slip, triggered by the expiration of 240 points from her 2024 fourth-round run, saw Katie Boulter overtake her, while Sonay Kartal’s rise to No. 44 added pressure. Raducanu’s emotional post-match tears underscored the personal toll, though she vowed to use the setback as motivation.

Both players face financial and competitive challenges, with Sinner’s tax hit tempering his triumph and Raducanu grappling with a ranking blow that could impact her momentum heading into the US Open.
