Jannik Sinner’s suspension, which began on February 9, has now passed the one-month mark and is set to conclude on May 4.
Following world No. 2 Alexander Zverev’s early exit from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Sinner is now almost certain to retain the top spot in the ATP rankings when he returns to competition.
During his time away from the tour, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria has been focusing heavily on his physical conditioning. Working closely with his fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio, Sinner is using this period—though unwanted for obvious reasons—as an opportunity to fine-tune his game and come back even stronger.
Over the past year, Sinner’s dominance has been undeniable. Despite the controversy surrounding his suspension, he has continued to dismantle opponents, amassing nine titles and suffering just six losses since January 2024.
Sinner Could Train With Thiem
While Sinner is currently prohibited from practicing with professional players and must train in private facilities until April 13, he may have found an ideal sparring partner.
A recent social media post showed the world No. 1 dining in Monte Carlo with former Austrian star Dominic Thiem. Also present were Thiem’s brother Moritz and his manager Stefan Herzog.
Thiem, who retired from professional tennis in late 2024 after a loss to Luciano Darderi in Vienna, could be the perfect practice partner to help Sinner maintain his rhythm during this challenging period.
The two have always shared a strong friendship, both on and off the court, even though they have never faced each other in an official match. When Thiem announced his retirement in front of his home crowd in Vienna, Sinner spoke warmly about his career and contributions to the sport.
With his return approaching, Sinner appears determined to use this time wisely, ensuring he remains a dominant force when he steps back onto the court in May.
