Jannik Sinner Or Carlos Alcaraz: Novak Djokovic identifies the player who will be the new face of men’s tennis
Djokovic Praises Alcaraz as Tennis’ Future, Reflects on His Own Passion for the Sport
Novak Djokovic has tipped Carlos Alcaraz to become the new face of men’s tennis, highlighting the young Spaniard’s charisma, sportsmanship, and rapid rise in the sport.
Speaking to Vijesti, Djokovic acknowledged the growing rivalry between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, likening it to his own legendary battles with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray over the past two decades.
“We have Alcaraz and Sinner developing a new rivalry. Nadal, Federer, and I, as well as Murray, really dominated men’s tennis for the last 15-20 years, setting high standards. But now, Alcaraz stands out, not just with his achievements but also with his charisma and sportsmanship.”
Djokovic praised Alcaraz’s positive attitude, particularly his ability to handle defeat with grace, and credited his success to the guidance of coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion.
Sinner’s Future in Doubt Amid Doping Case
While Sinner sits atop the ATP rankings after his Australian Open triumph, his doping case looms large. The 22-year-old faces a potential suspension after failing two tests last March, with his appeal set for mid-April. A ruling against him could significantly alter the sport’s landscape.
Djokovic’s Drive to Keep Competing
Despite his record 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic made it clear that he remains motivated by his love for the game and the personal growth it provides.
“Through tennis, I develop the most as a person. On court, I experience a million emotions—joy, doubt, criticism, anger, ecstasy. But I’m proud to go through it all in a sportsmanlike way.”
Djokovic also emphasized his desire to inspire the next generation of players, not just in tennis but in sports in general.
With Alcaraz’s rise and Sinner’s uncertain future, men’s tennis is at a crossroads. But for now, Djokovic remains firmly in the conversation—both as a champion and as a mentor to the sport’s future stars.
