Jannik Sinner Adds Hamburg to Clay-Court Schedule Before French Open

Jannik Sinner has officially signed up for the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, set to take place from May 18-24, as part of his preparation for the French Open.

Following his three-month doping suspension, which began on February 9 and will conclude on May 4, Sinner will be eligible to compete in the Rome Masters before heading to Roland Garros. However, realizing that one tournament might not be enough to regain match sharpness, the 23-year-old has decided to include Hamburg in his clay-court schedule.

The German event, previously held after Wimbledon, will mark Sinner’s debut appearance at the tournament as he looks to build form ahead of the second Grand Slam of the year.

Sinner Aimed to End the Uncertainty

When news broke that this year’s Australian Open champion had accepted a three-month doping ban, Sinner acknowledged that the uncertainty surrounding the case had taken a toll on him. Opting for a settlement with WADA rather than a prolonged CAS trial, the World No. 1 explained his reasoning:

“This case had been hanging over me for nearly a year, and the process still had a long time to run, with a decision maybe only at the end of the year,” Sinner stated after the suspension was confirmed.

With a month and a half left before his return, Sinner’s focus in Rome and Hamburg will be on getting as many matches as possible, ensuring he finds his rhythm before stepping onto the courts of Roland Garros.
