Jannik Sinner’s nomination for the 2024 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award has been withdrawn. This follows his acceptance of a three-month suspension for a positive clostebol test, settled with WADA.
Laureus Academy President Sean Fitzpatrick announced the decision, stating the three-month ban made Sinner ineligible, despite acknowledging “extenuating circumstances.”
The Laureus World Sports Awards are scheduled for Madrid on April 21, 2025, with nominations announced March 3. Over 1,300 sports media members worldwide participate in the selection.
Sinner, the current world number one, accepted the suspension on February 15. Initially deemed innocent by CAS, WADA challenged the decision, leading to a scheduled hearing. Sinner’s acceptance of the ban closed the case, avoiding a trial.
The suspension will keep Sinner out of Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid. He is expected to return at the Italian Open in Rome, maintaining his world number one ranking despite the ban.
