Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, the No. 6 seed, delivered a dominant performance on Friday, defeating Great Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-2 at the Caja Mágica to reach the third round of the 2025 Madrid Open.
Paolini, who received a first-round bye, took immediate control of the match with her aggressive baseline play. Boulter, ranked No. 40, struggled to keep pace and couldn’t find her rhythm as Paolini broke serve multiple times and wrapped up the match in just over an hour.
The victory marks Paolini’s 16th win of the season and adds to her growing momentum on the clay court. She will next face the winner of the match between No. 29 seed Magda Linette of Poland and Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
Boulter had advanced to the second round after a hard-fought victory over Katerina Siniakova (4-6, 6-2, 6-1), but Paolini proved too strong in their encounter.
