Jessica Pegula Continues Miami Open Success, Reaches Fifth Straight Last 16
Jessica Pegula has once again showcased her dominance at the Miami Open, advancing to the last 16 and continuing her impressive run at the WTA 1000 event.
The world No. 4 is among the favorites to make a deep run, chasing her second title of the season after securing the ATX Open in Austin earlier this month—her seventh career title.
While grass courts have often been a challenge for Pegula, she thrives on the hard courts of Miami, where she now sets her sights on Marta Kostyuk in the next round.
Pegula’s Road to the Last 16
After receiving a first-round bye, Pegula kicked off her campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Bernarda Pera, followed by a hard-fought 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(2) victory against Anna Kalinskaya in the third round.
Her triumph over Kalinskaya not only secured her spot in the fourth round but also placed her in elite company—making her the first player since Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska (2012-2016) to reach the Miami Open last 16 five years in a row, according to OptaAce.
“5 – Jessica Pegula is the first player to reach the Round of 16 at the Miami Open for five consecutive years since Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska (2012-2016). Usual.”
American Women Thriving in Miami
Pegula isn’t the only American making waves at the Miami Open. In fact, for the second straight year, five American women have reached the last 16—something that hasn’t happened since 2002-03.
Joining Pegula in the fourth round are:
✅ Danielle Collins (defending champion)
✅ Coco Gauff
✅ Ashlyn Krueger
✅ Amanda Anisimova
However, the American presence in the draw could have been even stronger. Emma Raducanu and Alexandra Eala eliminated McCartney Kessler and Madison Keys in round three, preventing a full house of homegrown talent in the next stage.
With top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek still in contention, Pegula remains in the hunt to become the next home champion—and with her consistent Miami Open success, she has a strong chance to make history.
