Jessica Pegula makes feelings known on her billionaire father Terry & NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s presence during Miami Open final loss
Jessica Pegula Shares Thoughts on Father Terry Pegula & NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s Presence During Miami Open Final Loss
Jessica Pegula recently opened up about her father, billionaire Terry Pegula, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell attending her Miami Open final against Aryna Sabalenka. Despite the high-profile spectators, Pegula remained composed, reflecting on their presence in a lighthearted manner.
“Yeah, my dad was here,” Pegula said post-match. “I saw Roger downstairs in the cafeteria. He was with his daughters and family. I said hi to him about an hour before the match. Didn’t know he was coming, but it was kind of funny to run into him there.”
She continued, “My dad ended up coming back in town yesterday, so he was able to watch. Yeah, it was cool.”
Facing the ‘Unstoppable’ Aryna Sabalenka
Pegula also shared her mindset when facing Sabalenka, who has been in dominant form on hard courts over the past year.
“We’re all measuring ourselves against each other. When someone is really dominant—like Iga [Swiatek] had that one year where she couldn’t lose—now it feels like Aryna has taken over that role, especially on hard courts,” Pegula remarked.
Despite the challenge, Pegula embraces competing against the world’s best: “If you want to win big tournaments and titles, you have to beat players like Aryna. That’s the reality.”
A Tough Miami Open Final
The Miami Open final saw Pegula battling fiercely but ultimately falling short against Sabalenka. Though the loss was disappointing, her performance solidified her place among the WTA’s elite.
With the clay-court season approaching, Pegula will look to bounce back stronger, using this experience as motivation for the challenges ahead.
