Pegula’s Grass Court Theory

While the United States isn’t known for producing grass-court specialists, American players have historically found success on the surface. Pegula believes it comes down to their aggressive playing style and fast-court experience.

“A lot of Americans grow up playing on faster hard courts, which kind of translates well to grass,” Pegula explained. “We’re used to playing aggressive, taking the ball early, and finishing points at the net, which are all key skills on grass.”

She also noted that while many European players spend a lot of time on clay, which requires patience and long rallies, American tennis culture emphasizes first-strike tennis, which suits the slick, fast nature of grass courts.

Wimbledon on the Horizon

Despite grass not being her most dominant surface, Pegula is determined to make her mark at Wimbledon this year. After a solid performance last season, she hopes to build on her experience and make a deep run at the Grand Slam.

“Wimbledon is always special, and I’m excited to be back this year,” Pegula confirmed. “I’ve been working on my game to adapt better to grass, and I think I can do well.”
