Jimmy Connors believes Jannik Sinner’s absence from the tour is a significant loss for tennis, especially considering the Italian’s incredible start to 2024. Speaking on the Advantage Connors podcast, the American legend expressed disappointment over Sinner’s suspension, stating that the sport is much better with him in it.

“Tennis is better with Sinner in it. It’s a lot better with him in it,” Connors said. “For him to be away from the game and not playing at a top level, not creating the interest that he does, is not good for the game. It’s a shame that this has crept into the sport.”

The Settlement Decision

After months of maintaining his innocence, Sinner ultimately accepted a three-month suspension in a settlement with WADA. The decision means he will miss four major ATP events—Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid—but will be eligible to return in time for the Rome Masters and Roland Garros.

WADA clarified that their case was not about Sinner’s integrity but rather about enforcing strict liability rules regarding his team’s actions. Sinner acknowledged this in his statement, saying, “I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realize WADA’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love.”

Despite the suspension, Sinner remains a dominant force in men’s tennis. Before the ban, he had competed only at the Australian Open this year—where he successfully defended his title—further solidifying his place as the world’s top-ranked player.
