Katie Boulter savages fiancé Alex de Minaur with four-word roast after the pair suffer Indian Wells doubles defeat

Katie Boulter didn’t mince words as she playfully roasted her new fiancé Alex de Minaur after their doubles loss to Emma Navarro and Ben Shelton on Wednesday at the Eisenhower Cup in Indian Wells.

The Brit teased that it’d be the “second and last time” she’d pair up with her Aussie beau for a mixed doubles outing.

The couple competed in the Tie Break Tens exhibition, a fast-paced warm-up to the BNP Paribas Open, where matches zip by in a single 10-point tiebreak format.

Boulter and De Minaur were knotted at 6-6 mid-match, but a flubbed shot from De Minaur handed Shelton and Navarro a three-point edge. The American duo sealed it after a thrilling rally, with De Minaur’s backhand—just shy of clearing the net—failing to counter Shelton’s blistering pace.

Post-match, Boulter was asked if it was their doubles debut. “Second… and last time,” she quipped with a grin. When the commentator pressed if De Minaur pulled his weight, she leapt to his defense: “No, he did! He was great!” Then, with a smirk, she added, “I thought he’d chase some shots, but he left them to me. So that was awesome.”

De Minaur fired back, chuckling, “Honestly, every ball I touched I missed, so I figured she’d be better off hitting them all.”

This jibe follows De Minaur’s hint at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships that he and Boulter might team up more this year. Both have first-round byes in the Indian Wells singles draws.

Boulter’s second-round foe will be either Ann Li or Irina-Camelia Begu. A win could pit her against world No. 7 Elena Rybakina in the third, with Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova, and Mirra Andreeva lurking in her half.

De Minaur’s path is no picnic either. He’ll face the winner of David Goffin versus Lorenzo Sonego, with a potential quarter-final clash against Novak Djokovic looming if he advances.
