Lee Carsley confirms latest fitness update about Man City’s Jack Grealish ahead of England vs Finland
Jack Grealish would have been disappointed not to have been available for selection in England’s recent 2-1 defeat to Greece.
During the international break, the Manchester City winger has given his thoughts on all things Three Lions.
Grealish admitted Gareth Southgate should have taken him to Euro 2024 due to his big-game experience and the uniqueness a player like him could have brought to the side.
Grealish also thanked Lee Carsley for recalling him to the England squad and entrusting him to play in the number 10 position against the Republic of Ireland and Malta.
The £100 million man is starting to regain his place in the City side.
One of the 29-year old’s primary goals would be to become a regular member of England’s squad once come the 2026 World Cup while also becoming a strong contender for a starting spot in the side.
Grealish fitness confirmed ahead of England vs Finland
Grealish will be aware that even in the current Three Lions squad, there is plenty of competition for places at both left-wing and in attacking midfield.
The likes of Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White are all competitors that stand in the way of the former Aston Villa captain’s place in the side.
As a result, the three-time Premier League winner would have been hoping to make a serious impression during the ongoing international break.
However, the decorated attacker was unable to do so against Greece.
Lee Carsley will be hoping that his side as a whole put in a much superior performance to the one they did so in their latest loss.
Ahead of England’s upcoming clash against Finland, Carsley confirmed that Grealish is fit and available for selection.
The 50-year-old said via HaytersTV: “We trained yesterday as well so Harry [Kane] and Jack [Grealish] both got through the session. We’re in a good position. I think it’s important that we freshen the team up a little bit. But yeah, we feel confident we’re in a good place.”
Jack Grealish should start against Finland
Throughout most of his international career, Grealish has been impressive in an England shirt.
Considering how disjointed the Three Lions’ display was against Greece, especially offensively, a return to the starting XI for the City wideman would be deserved.
Grealish was excellent during the previous international break and his selection would add a sense of familiarity to the other players who have played alongside him for several years now.
The treble-winner would also be determined to prove a point against Finland.
Whether it is behind the striker or out wide, Grealish has showcased that he can perform at a high level in both positions; making his selection a relatively easy decision for Lee Carsley.
It will be interesting to see if Carsley opts for the seasoned campaigner in his side for Sunday’s outing.
