Lewis Hamilton Secures Historic First Win for Ferrari in Chinese GP Sprint
Lewis Hamilton claimed his first victory for Ferrari in spectacular fashion, winning the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 40-year-old, who made a high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari this season, secured pole position with a stunning lap on Friday. On race day, he defended his lead from the start, fending off a strong mid-race challenge from Max Verstappen before crossing the finish line over seven seconds ahead.
“It feels amazing. This crowd is incredible,” Hamilton said after the win. “The transition to a new team is always a challenge, and there have been plenty of critics along the way. But today, the car felt great, and we executed everything perfectly.”
The victory marks Ferrari’s first-ever sprint race win since the format was introduced in 2021 and Hamilton’s first sprint victory. It is also his first win in any format since the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix last July.
Behind Hamilton, Oscar Piastri secured second place for McLaren after a late overtake on Verstappen, who settled for third. Championship leader Lando Norris finished eighth, collecting a single point.
Grand Prix qualifying follows at 7 AM (GMT) on Saturday.
