Lorenzo Musetti’s coach sends warning to Jannik Sinner’s rivals – “If they don’t, he will win from now on”
Corrado Barazzutti on Jannik Sinner: “He’s an Alien Right Now”
After successfully defending his Australian Open title, Jannik Sinner continues to dominate the ATP Tour, leaving his peers struggling to keep up. His incredible consistency over the past year—winning two Grand Slams, the ATP Finals, and reaching at least the quarterfinals in every event he entered—has led many to question who, if anyone, can challenge him.
Veteran Italian coach Corrado Barazzutti, who now works with Lorenzo Musetti, has weighed in on Sinner’s dominance. In an interview with La Nacion, Barazzutti issued a warning to Sinner’s rivals, stressing that they need to raise their level if they hope to compete with him.
Barazzutti: “Sinner is on Another Level”
“At the moment, he’s an alien. He’s not just good, he’s great! He plays at the level of a young Djokovic, a young Nadal, a young Federer.”
The former Davis Cup captain believes Sinner’s consistency and mental strength make him particularly dangerous. Unlike some of his competitors, Sinner doesn’t have ups and downs in his performance:
“The problem is that the other players are not at his level. [Carlos] Alcaraz, when he plays well, is the only one who can compete against Sinner, who has no ups and downs; that is his strength. He wins even when he doesn’t play well. He plays the best tennis in the world.”
Who Can Challenge Sinner?
Barazzutti believes that only a handful of players have the potential to keep up with Sinner, but many of them are either inconsistent or declining in form:
- Carlos Alcaraz: The only player who can match Sinner’s level when playing at his best.
- Daniil Medvedev & Stefanos Tsitsipas: Not playing as well as before.
- Holger Rune: Still young and developing.
- Novak Djokovic: Nearing the end of his career.
“We will see if the young players reach Sinner’s level; if they don’t, Jannik will win from now on… He has a very strong mind.”
Musetti’s Progress Under Barazzutti
Barazzutti, who joined Lorenzo Musetti’s coaching team in 2024, is working to help the World No. 16 bridge the gap to the top. Musetti had a strong 2024 season, reaching the Wimbledon semifinals and winning an Olympic bronze medal, but still has a long way to go to match Sinner’s consistency and dominance.
With Sinner setting the standard, the challenge for the rest of the ATP Tour is clear: either step up or get left behind.
