Luke Humphries Claps Back at Critic After Heavy Defeat to Luke Littler
Premier League Darts World No.1 Fires Back on Social Media
World No.1 Luke Humphries didn’t hold back after being called “past his prime” following his 6-1 thrashing by Luke Littler in the Premier League Darts final in Newcastle.
Humphries, who also suffered a first-round exit to Michael van Gerwen in Cardiff last week, still holds two nightly wins this season and sits second in the overall table with 18 points, well ahead of Van Gerwen.
Fan Criticism & Humphries’ Response
A Facebook user on the All Things Darts page suggested Humphries’ dominance was fading, predicting that once he loses his World No.1 ranking, his decline will follow.
“Humphries’ prime has truly been and gone. When he loses the World No.1 spot, he’ll slowly fall down the rankings.”
Humphries wasted no time firing back:
“I’ve literally won two of the last four majors, you wally! A couple of bad weeks don’t define you. This happened last year too, and look how that turned out.”
A History of Social Media Clashes
This isn’t the first time “Cool Hand Luke” has defended himself online. Last year, after being criticized for wearing Slazenger shoes on stage, he responded:
“They’re really comfy, and I don’t need £1,000 shoes to be world champion.”
Aiming for Consistency
Humphries admitted he’s been frustrated by inconsistent performances in 2025. After winning the World Championship in early 2024 by beating Littler, his title defense ended in the last 16 against Peter Wright in December.
Despite recent struggles, Humphries remains confident about his form, reminding fans of his Winmau World Masters victory in January 2025 and his Players Championship Finals triumph in late 2024.
