Luke Littler’s increased security arrangements have come to light following his rapid rise to becoming one of the biggest names in world sport.

The darts sensation burst onto the scene at just 16 years old when he reached the World Darts Championship final, eventually falling to Luke Humphries after a remarkable breakthrough run. He quickly backed that up by winning the Premier League and two further PDC major titles before going on to claim back-to-back World Darts Championship crowns, joining legends Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson in an exclusive club.

Littler’s impact has been instrumental in darts’ recent boom, coinciding with the PDC increasing the World Championship prize fund to £5 million. However, with his growing profile and popularity, steps were taken to ensure his safety during public appearances.

After defeating Michael van Gerwen 7-3 to become the youngest world champion in darts history, Littler’s former management company, ZXF Sports — run by Martin Foulds — introduced professional security. Bodyguard Peter Purkins was brought in to support the teenager at events and public engagements.

A source told the Daily Express:
“Luke is now one of the most recognisable faces in the country and has a lot of new fans. Sometimes people can be a little overzealous when they see him, so it’s sensible to have someone alongside him who can step in if needed.”

Purkins, known for his imposing presence, has accompanied Littler at several high-profile events and has previously worked with Premier League football stars Thierry Henry and Peter Crouch.

Littler’s professional setup has since evolved. His five-year association with ZXF Sports ended amicably in October, with Foulds stepping away from the industry after eight years to spend more time with his family. Littler is now fully represented by Target Darts, his long-time equipment sponsor, who he has worked with since the age of 12.

Target now manages Littler’s career alongside supplying his equipment, and last month announced that “The Nuke” had signed the biggest contract in darts history. The deal is reportedly worth around £20 million over 10 years, incorporating performance bonuses and a percentage of product sales.

“Target has believed in me from day one,” Littler said.
“I’m delighted that there are many more years to come. From my playing career to my product range, we’ve built everything together and I’m really excited to commit to our partnership long-term and see where we can take this next.”

Next on Littler’s schedule is the Bahrain Darts Masters on January 15–16, a title he is yet to win, followed by the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters as his packed global calendar continues.
