Luke Littler Makes Surprise Admission After Stunning Nine-Darter in Premier League
Luke Littler delivered a flawless nine-dart finish in the Premier League of Darts, defeating Michael van Gerwen in Cardiff. The 18-year-old sensation revealed afterward that he hadn’t even practiced for a week before producing his incredible performance.
Littler executed the perfect leg in the fourth set, hitting consecutive 180s before checking out on 141 (T20, T17, D15), sending the crowd into a frenzy. His victory on Night Eight of the competition also earned him a custom-made set of solid gold darts worth £30,000, courtesy of tournament sponsor BetMGM.
A Dominant Performance, Despite a Week Off
Averaging 112 on the night, Littler hit ten 180s compared to Van Gerwen’s four. His dominant display was all the more surprising given his decision to take a week off from practice. Speaking to Sky Sports, he joked that the break might have helped him play even better:
“I’ve been playing really well. I hadn’t picked up my darts since last Thursday—I just wanted to chill for a bit. But coming here and winning, now sitting six points clear, I’m feeling comfortable.
“All players need rest, and that’s why I pulled out of my scheduled appearance this weekend. After tonight’s performance, maybe I’ll take another week off!”
Silencing the Critics
Littler has faced criticism in the past for his laid-back approach to preparation, preferring gaming over constant practice. But after his commanding win in Wales, few will question his methods. The victory puts him six points ahead of Luke Humphries in second place, marking his third Premier League triumph following earlier wins in Glasgow and Brighton.
His initial goal was simply to secure a playoff spot, but now, the Warrington native has his sights set on finishing at the top of the standings.
“I just want to get to the O2 for the playoffs as quickly as possible,” Littler added.
“I’ve put myself in a great position, and now I want to stay No. 1. Last year, I wasn’t focused on finishing first, but this time, I’m going for it. I was happy with my doubles tonight, but there’s plenty more to come.”
What’s Next?
Littler returns to action on Thursday, March 27, in Newcastle, where he’ll take on an out-of-form Stephen Bunting, who has yet to win a Premier League fixture. If he maintains his current level, Littler will be the clear favorite to extend his lead at the top of the table.
As his performances continue to impress, one thing is certain—Luke Littler is proving he belongs at the very top of world darts.
