The special recognition comes in light of the 18-year-old’s historic achievements in professional darts, including his recent World Championship victory. According to the Warrington Guardian, the council is expected to formally approve the honorary title in acknowledgment of Littler’s remarkable contributions to the borough.

In January 2025, Littler made history by defeating three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen to win the World Darts Championship, becoming the youngest world champion in darts history. This victory shattered van Gerwen’s previous record and cemented Littler’s status as a rising star in the sport.

His meteoric rise began in 2024, when at just 16 years old, he reached the World Championship final, sparking a global phenomenon known as “Littlermania” and driving a surge of interest in darts.

Honors Beyond the Dartboard

Littler’s hometown Warrington Wolves will also pay tribute to the teenage sensation by temporarily renaming their stadium as ‘The Luke Littler Stadium’ for Friday’s Super League opener. A devoted Wolves supporter, Littler will be the star guest at the club’s first home game of the 2025 Super League season.

Beyond his World Championship triumph, Littler has already secured 11 senior PDC titles, including a historic Premier League debut victory, making him the youngest player to win a major PDC tournament. His 2024 season was equally impressive, with Grand Slam of Darts and World Series of Darts titles added to his growing list of accomplishments.

A Local Hero with a Global Impact

Littler’s journey began at an early age—first picking up a dart at 18 months old before joining St Helens Youth Academy at just eight. Born in Warrington, he returned to the town at age six, later attending Padgate Academy.

His impact extends beyond the oche, playing a pivotal role in raising over £1 million for Prostate Cancer UK during the World Darts Championship. He has also championed Motor Neurone Disease awareness, proudly displaying the charity’s logo on his shirt, a cause tied to his love for rugby league.

In recognition of his achievements, Littler was awarded the 2024 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in December.

Premier League Preparations

As he continues to dominate the sport, Littler is now preparing for night three of the Premier League on Thursday. Following his victory last week, where he defeated Rob Cross, Van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries, the defending champion looks to build on his momentum as he returns to action in Dublin.
