Gerwyn Price Hails Luke Littler as the Future of Darts Despite Night Six Victory
Gerwyn Price may have taken Premier League Night Six glory in Nottingham, but his admiration for Luke Littler couldn’t be clearer. The Welshman, who secured a 6-3 win over Littler in the final, believes the 18-year-old world champion is destined to rewrite history—even predicting he could surpass Phil Taylor’s legendary 16 World Championship titles.
Price: “No One in the PDC Can Stop Him”
Despite handing Littler his third straight Premier League final defeat, Price was full of praise for his rival, insisting that the teenager is only scratching the surface of his potential.
“I wanted to get another win over Luke just to keep on top,” Price told Sky Sports.
“He’s one of the best in the world, and he’s only going to get better and better.”
Price, a former world champion himself, went as far as saying that only future generations of players will be able to challenge Littler, as those currently in the PDC won’t be able to keep up with his meteoric rise.
“I think he’ll beat Phil Taylor’s records, and there is no one in the PDC that will stop him. Only the younger generations can stop him, we can’t.”
“Littler Has Taken Darts to a New Level”
Littler’s impact on the sport has been undeniable, and Price acknowledged how the teenager has elevated the game, drawing new fans and raising the overall standard of competition.
“Littler has done wonders for the sport. We all need to start winning now because in the next few years, he is going to be unbeatable.”
“He’s taken the sport to new levels and he deserves everything he gets.”
A Hard-Fought Night in Nottingham
While Price dominated the final, Littler had once again proven his brilliance earlier in the night. The teenager produced four bullseye checkouts, including stunning finishes of 167, 164, and 127, en route to the final.
Despite the loss, Littler still leads the Premier League standings with 16 points, just ahead of Luke Humphries (15), while Price moves up to third place on 12 points.
Mardle: “Price Has His Swagger Back”
Sky Sports analyst Wayne Mardle believes Price’s confidence and enjoyment of the game have returned, making him an even bigger threat moving forward.
“Price is a real nice guy, and seeing him unhappy was awful. Now he’s got his swagger back, a smile on his face, and that will happen when you’re winning.”
Mardle also backed Price’s assessment of Littler, acknowledging that the next generation of players is raising the bar in darts.
“To win 16 world titles in this era is a tough ask, but as more money comes into the game, young players will practice more and get better—maybe there’s another Littler out there.”
Looking Ahead to Cardiff
The Premier League action moves to Cardiff next Thursday, where Littler will look to finally break his losing streak against Price and strengthen his grip on the top spot.
Will “The Nuke” fire back, or will Price continue his dominance over the teenager?
