Luke Littler wants to invest in football club he’s got ‘massive connection’ with after KSI takeover
Luke Littler has revealed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of KSI and invest in a football club — and he already has a very specific target in mind.
The darts world number one, who is as well known for his love of football as he is for his exploits on the oche, has opened up on his desire to one day “splash some money” on Warrington Town, the non-league side from his hometown who currently compete in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
The 19-year-old made the admission in an interview with SPORTbible, coming hot on the heels of YouTube star KSI’s high-profile purchase of a minority stake in National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge. The 32-year-old influencer, real name Olajide Olatunji, joined a growing list of celebrity football investors — among them Stormzy and Wilfried Zaha, who bought AFC Croydon Athletic — and made clear his ultimate ambition is to take the Daggers all the way to the Premier League. A docuseries charting the journey, titled Race to the Top, is already in production for KSI’s YouTube channel.
The story clearly resonated with Littler, who describes himself as “pretty obsessed” with football. He was watching Premier League action between rounds at the UK Open last weekend, tracking Fulham v Southampton and Port Vale against Sunderland from Butlin’s Minehead.
“I’ll always be on FotMob, checking players’ stats and stuff like that,” he told SPORTbible. “Even when it comes to past United players, I like to see how they’re getting on. I was looking at David de Gea the other day. She was like, ‘What are you doing?’ I went, ‘It’s Dave Saves, man. Come on, I’ve got to see how he’s doing!'”
But it is Warrington Town rather than Manchester United where Littler’s investment dreams lie. The Warrington-born star says the club are not far away from getting to League Two, and has made no secret of the connection he feels to the club.
“Hopefully it’s one for the future,” Littler said. “Splash some money and if I lose out, then I lose out. But hopefully it would all go well.”
He would be welcomed with open arms. Warrington Town chairman Toby Macormac has previously made clear the door is wide open, saying that what Littler has done to put the town on the map has been “unbelievable.” The club were delighted when he attended a home game against Hereford last year — and even more pleased that they won while he was in the stands.
For now, the timing may not be quite right. Littler is still only 19, fresh off retaining his UK Open title and firmly focused on Premier League glory. But between a Manchester United fanatic who watches football between darts legs, a club that would love nothing more than to have their most famous son involved, and the blueprint set by KSI and the Wrexham model before him, it feels less like an idle dream and more like a question of when.
