Luke Littler warned that his continued success may make him unpopular: ”Everyone wants that success”
Luke Littler has been cautioned that his continued success may not sit well with his fellow players. The teenage sensation, who became world champion at just 18, has helped propel darts to new levels of popularity, attracting a fresh wave of fans to the sport.
Since his breakout as a 16-year-old at the 2024 World Championship, Littler has been in the constant spotlight. His meteoric rise has sparked tensions among his competitors, and he acknowledges that rivalries on the circuit are growing fiercer.
Last month at Alexandra Palace, Littler admitted he senses an undercurrent of hostility from other players.
“It’s definitely not to my face. Not as soon as I walk in, but whenever I’m practising, I can just feel that tension. And I just laugh at it,” he revealed.
Former world champion and darts legend Dennis Priestley has weighed in, warning that jealousy will only intensify as Littler and world number one Luke Humphries continue to dominate.
“Luke Littler or Luke Humphries are the best two players in the world,” Priestley told OLBG. “But that can all change quickly. When one or two players dominate the sport, they start to become disliked because others want that success – it only makes them more determined to beat you.”
Both Littler and Humphries recently voiced their frustration over crowd behavior at last week’s Premier League event in Glasgow, where whistles and jeers disrupted key moments in matches.
Priestley believes swift action is necessary to curb such incidents.
“The PDC need to spot the culprits and start ejecting them immediately to send out a message,” said ‘The Menace.’
