Man City ace Jack Grealish embarrasses England by naming West Ham star as best in the Premier League
Man City ace Jack Grealish has left England bosses red-faced by naming a West Ham star as the best in the Premier League.
Cary Grant once said ‘no greater honour can come to any man than the respect of his colleagues’.
Well Manchester City’s £100m man Jack Grealish has certainly showed that to one particular West Ham star.
Man City and West Ham have always enjoyed good relations.
The club’s fans are famously friendly and it dates back to a game at Upton Park in 1987.
Well the close bond between Premier League champions Manchester City and West Ham is alive and well.
That’s despite the best efforts of Hammers vice-chair Karren Brady in the battle between Prem bosses and Man City.
There were some big headlines made by West Ham and Manchester City stars in recent England selections.
Grealish names West Ham star as best in the Premier League
Man City ace Grealish was recalled by interim boss Lee Carsley after being left out of the Euros by Gareth Southgate.
But there was no place for Hammers talisman Jarrod Bowen or his two high-performing teammates Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Despite proclamations to the contrary whenever a new man takes over the England hotseat, a “big six” bias almost always seems to come to the fore eventually.
Carsley was the latest pretender to the throne and many Hammers fans hoped summer signings Kilman and Wan-Bissaka would be in with a real shout for selection.
Carsley, like all the others, declared it was a clean slate when he was handed interim control.
Yet he left West Ham’s excellent trio at home for the October break, something they had been used to under Southgate, with the exception of Bowen in more recent squads.
Kilman has been brilliant since arriving at West Ham in a £40m deal and is arguably the club’s player of the season so far.
England are in desperate need of more ball-carrying central defenders. Especially left-footed ones. Kilman ticks all those boxes yet was overlooked.

Man City ace embarrasses England with Wan-Bissaka praise
Wan-Bissaka has been underlining the widely held belief he is comfortably the best defensive right-back around since joining the Hammers for £15m from Man United.
England have problems at left-back with Carsley even laughably stating he would play Cole Palmer there if needed.
Wan-Bissaka has also shown his versatility by playing at left-back for the Hammers.
The Irons trio were absolutely brilliant in West Ham’s 4-1 win over Ipswich before the international break. Yet all three were snubbed.
Now Man City ace Grealish has embarrassed England by naming a West Ham star as the best in the Premier League.
Look away Southgate and Carsley and take note Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel take note – West Ham’s Wan-Bissaka is the man
Because Grealish says Wan-Bissaka is the best one-on-one defender he has faced.
Appearing on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, Grealish was asked who he thought fans would name as his toughest opponent.
Discounting Kyle Walker, who he plays with at Man City, Grealish said West Ham’s Wan-Bissaka was his toughest opponent.
And he was taken aback when told Wan-Bissaka had not made the top three in fans’ eyes.
“Wan-Bissaka,” Grealish said only to be told the Hammers defender was fourth on the list.
“Yea (he’s the one), I think he’s really good one-v-one defending.
“Yea probably him, yea (those long legs, sliding tackles) – he loves it.”
