One Manchester City star will reportedly take a leaf out of Jack Grealish’s book by returning to pre-season early.

Grealish recently missed out on selection for England’s Euro 2024 squad, to the surprise of a lot of people.

While he did not have a particularly great season for City, he still has qualities that could have made him quite useful out in Germany.

It was a bitter disappointment for Grealish, with many of his England teammates even shocked by the decision from Gareth Southgate.

As a result, it was reported recently that Grealish was going to report back to City early, to try and prepare himself for 2024/25 as best as possible.

Now, it’s being suggested another player could do the same thing.

The Sun reported on Monday night that Kalvin Phillips will join Grealish in heading back to City earlier than other players.

Like Grealish, Phillips suffered disappointment when he did not get called up for Euro 2024. With Phillips, it was less of a surprise and more of an expectation given he had not made a squad in 2024 leading up to the tournament.

His form had been very poor at West Ham United, after he went there on loan after barely playing at City.

Phillips is likely to leave City again this summer, but it remains to be seen on what kind of basis that will be. His high wages could be a sticking point for several clubs.

But until something is sorted, Phillips will remain at City, and The Sun are saying that he intends to come back to pre-season earlier than other players, in a bid to reignite his career.

The player has indicated he wants to be back a couple of weeks before Pep Guardiola and the other players. He is set to go on City’s pre-season tour of the USA on July 19 if nothing is facilitated for him before then.

Fair play to Phillips

Phillips is to be commended for getting himself back to the CFA to try and get himself prepared for next season.

It is probably beyond him to play a part for City. We have seen that Pep simply doesn’t trust him, and his spell at West Ham was a disaster.

But there is no denying how good an attitude he has. It is clear The £45 million man realises that he has a lot of work to do to get back on track.

And hopefully he will do that. It hasn’t worked out for him at City, but he is obviously not a bad player. The level is so high at City and he just hasn’t been able to adapt.

He will prove to be a good signing for someone. It is now just about him finding the right environment to thrive again, and also about City getting a good deal.
