Manchester City is expected to be active in the summer transfer window, with a need to rejuvenate their squad following recent performances. Their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest has highlighted the need for change, as some key players, including Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, appear to be past their peak. The team’s recent form, marked by 15 defeats in their last 30 games across all competitions, has raised concerns.
According to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, Manchester City is considering a move for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey to inject fresh energy into the squad.
Manchester City has been closely monitoring Ramsey, impressed by his performances. The 23-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £50 million, is seen as a potential source of new vitality for the team, given that De Bruyne and Silva are now 33 and 30, respectively.
Ramsey, who emerged from Aston Villa’s academy in 2019, played 12 games alongside Jack Grealish before Grealish’s £100 million transfer to Manchester City in August 2021. Ramsey admires Grealish, citing him as an inspirational figure. In a 2022 interview with the Express & Star, Ramsey stated, “There are always things you can pick up. I look at all the big midfielders in the Premier League. I watched the gaffer (Steven Gerrard), Coutinho, and Frank Lampard. Now I look at players like Kevin De Bruyne, James Maddison, and Ilkay Gundogan. I watch clips of Jack Grealish too. You can always learn something.”
Despite playing only 12 games together, Grealish and Ramsey formed a productive partnership at Aston Villa. In those 12 games, Villa lost only three times, winning seven and drawing two. Ramsey also admires Rodri.
While there are rumors of Grealish potentially leaving Manchester City this summer, which could prevent the two from playing together under Pep Guardiola, their previous collaboration suggests they could form a strong partnership.
