Martina Navratilova Reacts to Novak Djokovic’s Comments on Jakub Mensik After Miami Open Loss
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova praised Novak Djokovic for his gracious comments following his heartbreaking Miami Open final loss to Jakub Mensik.
After falling to the 19-year-old Czech, Djokovic acknowledged Mensik’s outstanding performance, saying:
“I don’t want to talk too much—this is Jakub’s moment and a moment for his team and family. Congratulations. Unbelievable tournament, first of many. It hurts to admit it, but you were better. In the clutch moments, you delivered. Phenomenal serving and incredible mental strength. For a young player, this is a great asset that will help you in the future.”
Djokovic ended on a lighthearted note:
“I wish you the best of luck—maybe you’ll let me win one next time.”
Navratilova, an 18-time Grand Slam champion, commended Djokovic’s sportsmanship, writing:
“World-class comments from Novak to Mensik— from the biggest champion to the new champion.”
Djokovic later admitted that while he never enjoys losing, Mensik is one of the few players he was “happier” to lose to.
