Martina Navratilova Questions Emma Raducanu’s Health After Miami Open Run

Emma Raducanu impressed at the Miami Open, winning four consecutive matches before being eliminated in the quarter-finals by Jessica Pegula. This marked her best performance in a WTA 1000 event since her stunning US Open victory in 2021.

However, tennis legend Martina Navratilova believes Raducanu’s biggest challenge remains her health, particularly after the 22-year-old struggled with dizziness and fatigue during her match against Pegula.

Navratilova’s Concern Over Raducanu’s Health

Speaking on Sky Sports, Navratilova praised Raducanu’s resilience but pointed out concerns regarding her physical condition.

“It was amazing. At the end of the second set, it looked like the match was over, yet she managed to win the tie-break and push into the third. However, she clearly wasn’t feeling well,” said Navratilova.

“The weather wasn’t extreme, it was cool, and they finished late at night, so external factors weren’t to blame. The humidity does drain energy, but this seemed like something more for Emma. It’s impressive that she even finished the match.”

Raducanu later admitted feeling dizzy and faint, attributing it to the humid conditions and long rallies.

Raducanu’s Future and Coaching Search

Navratilova remains optimistic about Raducanu’s future but believes her health and coaching situation need stability.

“If she stays healthy and plays at this level, she’ll be seeded at Roland Garros and could break into the top 30. But the biggest question mark is her health,” she explained.

Raducanu is currently without a full-time coach, following Nick Cavaday’s departure in January. Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has praised her talent, but unlike Kyrgios, Navratilova believes Raducanu needs a consistent coaching team.

“She’s been in a state of flux. She needs to commit to a coach, stay with them, and build consistency,” Navratilova added.

“I just felt really dizzy and faint. It was very humid, and we had a long wait before playing. Maybe it was an accumulation of that and the long rallies,” she admitted.

As for what’s next, Raducanu is taking time to reassess:

“This week was good, but I need to evaluate what I’m doing and then make a plan from there.”

With her performance in Miami proving she can still compete at the highest level, fans will be eager to see how Raducanu builds on this momentum.
