Nick Kyrgios Takes Another Dig at Jannik Sinner Over Doping Scandal
Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has once again taken aim at Italy’s Jannik Sinner, mocking the world No. 1 over his ongoing doping controversy.
Sinner, widely regarded as one of the top players in men’s tennis alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, recently secured his third Grand Slam title. The 23-year-old defeated world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in straight sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3) to claim victory at the Australian Open. However, his triumph has been overshadowed by lingering discussions surrounding his alleged doping case.
In March of last year, Sinner tested positive for banned substances on two separate occasions. Despite this, he avoided suspension after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) accepted his legal team’s explanation, which attributed the positive test results to a contaminated cream administered by a member of his coaching staff. The ruling sparked backlash from various players—both past and present— with Kyrgios emerging as one of its most vocal critics.
Kyrgios Mocks Sinner’s YouTube Launch
In a recent social media exchange on X (formerly Twitter), Kyrgios once again took a swipe at Sinner, who had just launched his own YouTube channel following his triumph in Melbourne. Responding to a comment, the Australian posted:
“He has brought out a YouTube channel—hopefully, he has the behind-the-scenes of what happened a year ago 😂 Media team is working overtime, mate—disgusting.”
WADA Appeals ITIA Verdict, Seeks Two-Year Ban
While Sinner remains free to compete, the controversy is far from settled. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has challenged the ITIA’s ruling and taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking a two-year ban for the world No. 1. A final verdict is expected in April 2025, which could have significant ramifications for Sinner’s career.
As the tennis world awaits the decision, Kyrgios continues to be one of the loudest voices criticizing the handling of the case. With tensions running high, all eyes will be on the CAS ruling and its impact on the sport’s top-ranked player.
