Michael van Gerwen leaves hotel with stunning mystery woman
Michael van Gerwen’s personal life has been thrust into the spotlight once more, after the three-time world champion was photographed leaving his Ally Pally hotel with a mystery brunette woman during the World Darts Championship.
The Daily Mail published images of Van Gerwen departing his north London hotel with the unidentified woman at his side, adding fresh fuel to a story that has followed the Dutchman throughout his time at Alexandra Palace. The paper described the woman as his “new mystery brunette girlfriend.”
The sighting came at an already turbulent moment for Van Gerwen off the oche. Just days earlier, his ex-wife Daphne Govers had revealed in an interview on Dutch TV programme Shownieuws that she was expecting a baby with her new partner Robert — due in January 2026, barely seven or eight months after she and Van Gerwen had announced their separation. Daphne openly acknowledged a “mistake” had been made on her part. “Of course a mistake was made on my part. Everyone knows that. We don’t have to hide that. I’d rather keep the story private,” she said. She added that she had not expected to fall pregnant given her medical history. When asked about Van Gerwen’s feelings on the news, Daphne was cautious: “I wouldn’t dare say. I don’t think very happy, but I really don’t know.”
Van Gerwen married Daphne Govers in August 2014. The couple share two children, a daughter born in August 2017 and a son born in April 2020. In May 2025, he announced that he and Govers had separated.
Van Gerwen himself had been remarkably candid about his personal upheaval in the weeks before the tournament, and had spoken openly about navigating single life for the first time in years. “Have you met someone new? Are you dating already? Or people who say: why are you on a dating app? I’m not dating anyone, but what’s wrong with a dating app?” he told DartsNews. “There are millions of people on dating apps. I’m not made to stay alone my whole life, and people do wish me that happiness, but it comes when it comes. You just have to take your time.”
He also noted the unwanted media attention that now surrounds his every move. He revealed that when he recently posted a photo with a good friend on Instagram, his phone exploded right away. “I’m learning new things every day,” he said.
Throughout it all, Van Gerwen was focused on trying to claim a fourth world title — describing 2025 as his “worst year ever,” citing personal upheaval and professional challenges that marked the previous twelve months. He reached the fourth round before falling to Gary Anderson, adding another painful chapter to what had been an already bruising twelve months.
