Mirra Andreeva made a lighthearted dig at her coach, Conchita Martinez, following her opening-round victory at the 2025 Madrid Open, joking about Martinez’s apparent lack of knowledge about the host city.

“Madrid is a pretty special place for me, and this tournament itself as well. I’m always excited to come back and play in front of you guys,” Andreeva said. “Honestly, Conchita didn’t tell me much about the city—maybe she doesn’t know anything! I’m going to ask her later. But I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about Madrid. I’m sorry!”

“I’m not really looking forward to my 18th birthday because I don’t want to grow old! I don’t want to become an adult so soon,” she said with a laugh.

Despite the milestone, the young talent is focused on her game rather than birthday celebrations.

“I don’t really expect any gifts, because I hope I’ll still be playing in Madrid at that time. I’ll try to make a gift for myself by winning a match that day. If I have to play on my birthday, I’ll do my best to win.”

With her mix of on-court talent and off-court charm, Andreeva continues to captivate fans as one of the most promising young players on the WTA Tour.
