After Holger Rune’s late-night defeat to Mariano Navone (23) on Thursday, Rune’s mother, Aneke Rune, denied reports that her son had resumed working with his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou (54).

“It is definitely not correct,” Aneke Rune told TV2 Sport, confirming that Rune is still working with Lars Christensen and Kenneth Carlsen, while Patrick Mouratoglou continues to coach Naomi Osaka.

The misunderstanding began with Ole, a respected Argentinian sports outlet, which reported on Thursday that Rune had rejoined forces with Mouratoglou, who had previously coached him on two occasions. This assumption came after an extended interview with Rune, where he mentioned it was a “fantastic feeling to be back with my old coach.” Ole mistakenly concluded that Rune was referring to Mouratoglou, when in fact, he was talking about Lars Christensen.

The confusion quickly spread, with TennisTemple.com publishing an article Thursday evening with the headline: “Rune: ‘I’m back with Mouratoglou and I feel I’m playing better and better.'”

Rune was not at his best in the match against Navone, losing in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires. Afterward, he explained that he had not fully recovered from a flu earlier in the week.
