Nick Kyrgios Accepts Novak Djokovic’s Invitation for Doubles Reunion
Nick Kyrgios has accepted Novak Djokovic’s invitation to play doubles again later this year. The two previously teamed up at the Brisbane International in January, winning one match before falling to top seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, expressed his desire to reunite with Kyrgios at the Belgrade Open, his home tournament. “I do really wish that we play another time in doubles,” the 37-year-old told Tennis Majors. “Later on this year, we have a tournament in Belgrade. Maybe we should slam it there.”
Kyrgios quickly responded on social media, writing: “I’m in, partner.”
The duo formed an unexpected friendship after Kyrgios publicly defended Djokovic during his 2022 Australian Open visa controversy. Their relationship strengthened after their Wimbledon final clash that same year, with Djokovic declaring their bond an “official bromance.”
For now, both players remain focused on their Miami Open campaigns. Kyrgios recently secured his first singles victory in over two years by defeating Mackenzie McDonald. Up next, he faces No. 22 seed Karen Khachanov. Meanwhile, Djokovic, seeded fourth, is set to play Australian Rinky Hijikata in his first match of the tournament.
