Nick Kyrgios reacts to Coco Gauff’s incredible win over ex-Grand Slam champ Sofia Kenin at Miami Open
Nick Kyrgios Reacts to Coco Gauff’s Dominant Miami Open Start
Nick Kyrgios couldn’t help but react to Coco Gauff’s ruthless performance in the second round of the Miami Open, where the third seed dismantled Sofia Kenin 6-0, 6-0 in a stunning display.
Gauff Silences Doubters with Flawless Performance
Heading into Miami, questions surrounded Gauff’s form, as she struggled to make deep runs in recent tournaments. Double faults had crept back into her game, contributing to losses against Paula Badosa (Australian Open), Marta Kostyuk (Qatar Open), and Belinda Bencic (Indian Wells).
Despite the doubts, Gauff left no room for debate against Kenin, winning an incredible 71% of her service points and 75% of her return points. She hit only two double faults and faced just one break point en route to the perfect 6-0, 6-0 scoreline.
Kyrgios’ Playful Reaction to Gauff’s Quick Win
Tennis insider Myles David joked on social media that Gauff must have been in a hurry because she was hungry, leading to her swift victory.
“Ohh Coco was hungry huh? Iktr,” David posted.
Kyrgios, known for his playful social media presence, chimed in by dropping four “plate and fork” emojis, agreeing that Gauff was indeed “hungry” for the win.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios himself is enjoying a strong start in Miami, securing his first ATP Tour win in over two years against Mackenzie McDonald in the opening round.
Gauff to Face Maria Sakkari in Round Three
Next up for Gauff is a familiar opponent—Maria Sakkari. The two recently faced off at Indian Wells, where Gauff claimed a 7-6 (1), 6-2 victory. However, Sakkari holds a narrow 5-4 edge in their overall head-to-head.
Sakkari also boasts a stronger track record in Miami, having reached the semifinals in 2021 and the quarterfinals last year. In contrast, Gauff has never advanced past the fourth round in Miami.
If her flawless opening-round performance is any indication, Gauff looks determined to capture her first title of the season. With potential matchups against Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals and Iga Swiatek in the final, her path to glory won’t be easy.
Can she keep up this dominant form and make history in Miami?
