Djokovic Edges Alcaraz in Monte-Carlo Practice Set Ahead of ATP Masters
Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz gave fans a thrilling preview of what could be a Monte-Carlo Masters final as they faced off in a practice set on Sunday.
Despite both stars taking it light, the friendly session had competitive flair. Alcaraz got off to a flying start with a 4-2 lead, but Djokovic quickly responded with three consecutive games, ultimately taking the set 5-4 before they wrapped up.
Although the match was unofficial, Djokovic’s late surge sent a clear signal—he’s still a major threat on clay, even while recovering from a recent eye infection that impacted his performance at the Miami Open.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the 24-time Grand Slam champion tempered expectations:
“I’m still adjusting to clay and dealing with some health stuff. The focus is more on getting matches in and peaking later in the clay season—especially in Paris.”
Djokovic and Alcaraz are in opposite halves of the draw, meaning a real clash would only happen in the final. If this practice set is any indication, tennis fans are in for something special if that matchup becomes reality.
