Naomi Broady Defends Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu from Critics

Former British tennis player Naomi Broady has come to the defense of Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu, arguing that much of the criticism they receive stems from jealousy.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has often divided opinion due to controversies on and off the court. Meanwhile, Raducanu, who stunned the world by winning the 2021 US Open, has faced scrutiny over her form and struggles with injuries since that breakthrough.

Broady Slams Unfair Treatment

Speaking to Tennis365, Broady questioned why these two stars are often the target of negative remarks.

🗣️ “Why should it be Djokovic? Why should it be Emma Raducanu getting those negative comments? They have done nothing other than achieve incredible things in tennis.”

She believes many critics don’t fully appreciate the hard work and sacrifices these players make.

“Maybe it’s jealousy, or just people not being able to comprehend what they’ve done. We sometimes don’t see them as humans, just as robots.”

Broady also suggested that most critics wouldn’t have the courage to say such things face-to-face.

“Would people say these negative things to their face if they were fortunate enough to meet them? Probably not.”

Raducanu’s Struggles and Criticism

Raducanu, 22, has battled injuries and inconsistent form since her historic US Open victory, where she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam.

She had three surgeries in 2023 and, despite reaching the Australian Open third round, has suffered early exits in Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

Some have dismissed her triumph as luck, but Broady strongly refutes this.

🗣️ “People who say Emma got lucky don’t understand tennis. You can’t come through qualifying, win seven matches without dropping a set, and win a Grand Slam by luck.”

She added that Raducanu has the level to return to the top, but dealing with constant negativity online is an additional mental challenge.

As both Djokovic and Raducanu continue to navigate intense scrutiny, Broady’s comments serve as a reminder that success in tennis doesn’t come easy—and neither should the criticism. 🎾
