Novak Djokovic Reveals Where Andy Murray Is and Updates on Monte-Carlo Plans
Novak Djokovic has confessed that he has “no idea” where Andy Murray is at the moment, confirming that the British tennis star will not be joining him at this week’s Monte-Carlo Masters. Djokovic, returning to the clay courts for the first time since his loss in the Miami Open final, revealed Murray will rejoin him later during the clay season.
Murray, who had been coaching Djokovic during the off-season after his own retirement from professional tennis, was seen in Djokovic’s box during the Miami Open, but he’s absent from Monaco. Djokovic explained that the Monte-Carlo Masters was never part of their coaching schedule.
“I have no idea, to be honest,” Djokovic joked when asked where Murray was. “I spoke to him about four or five days ago, and he was at home, probably busy with family. I think he’s focusing on his golf swing this week.”
For now, Djokovic will be guided by his younger brother, Marko, who briefly competed on the ATP Tour and reached a career-high ranking of No. 574. Marko will be assisting as Djokovic’s coach for the tournament in Monte-Carlo.
“I’m here with my brother; he’s helping me this week,” Djokovic shared. “It wasn’t part of the plan to have Andy with me here, but my brother was happy to join. It’s great for me emotionally as well, since I don’t get to see him often.”
Despite not having Murray by his side this week, Djokovic is looking forward to reuniting with him at the Madrid Open, which kicks off on April 23. Reflecting on his recent run to the Miami final, Djokovic said, “It was a great tournament for me overall, even though I lost in the final. There’s a lot of positivity I can take from it.”
The 37-year-old also mentioned that he and Murray are still figuring out their plans beyond Madrid, potentially discussing future events like the French Open.
